>>MILLIE FOUND A FRIEND

I know I blog a lot about Millie, but I can't help it when she is so darn cute.

She made friends with the neighbor....and watching them play between the fence is the cutest thing I've ever seen.

>>J&K

My good friends (best friends, actually) are adopting.  For the past 4 years, not only have I wanted to experience the joys of parenthood myself, but I have wanted them too just as much.

Their names are Justin and Katie.  Let me tell you a little bit about them....

I met Justin back in my bowl-cut days.  Crazy to think that was 16 years ago!!  Wow, time flies.  It was through Justin that I met Curtis, so I guess I have him to thank.  Thanks Justin!

So, anyway, we grew up and eventually Justin married Katie....who I instantly adored (and still do).

They are nice, like really nice, like they are the nicest people I know.

They are fun.  Not only fun, but funny too.

They are perfect together.  They bring out the best in one another and are truly in love.

They are caring and accepting and loving and wonderful.

Basically, I love them and I know they are going to make wonderful parents.

Here is their adoption page: http://hopeforababy.com/

Aren't they adorable?!?

My hope in posting this is to just help spread the word about our friends and their hope to expand their family.  Infertility is something that just plain sucks and is frustrating and emotional and hard to understand.

Justin and Katie are such good people and will make wonderful parents.  Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.  They would love nothing more than to add to their family and to share their love with a new baby.

thinking back . . .

Four years ago today Curtis and I were in a terrible car accident.

You've heard the details before, I know.  But I can't help but reflect back on that day.

A car came into our lane and we collided head on at about 60mph.

I had never experienced such pain in all my life (and hope I never do again).  I felt like I was dropped from a tall building with only cement to break my fall.  I was in pain from my head to my toes.

We spent a week in the hospital with injuries that included broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a collapsed lung, bleeding kidneys, cracked vertebraes, broken tailbones, and swollen, black and blue feet....and not to mention poor Curtis had a head full of gouges and glass from hitting the windshield.

That first night in the hospital, I couldn't sleep.  Every time I closed my eyes, I saw a car crashing into me.

I had stressful dreams from there-on-out.  For about 3 years.

When looking back at our accident, a lot of memories flood my mind.  Memories of the ambulance ride to the hospital, memories of the emergency room...doctors coming in and out...nurses never leaving my side...worrying about Curtis...getting a CT scan, the daily chest x-rays...the liquid diet...using the nurse call button, etc.  There was so much going on.

The one thing that stands out to me though was the love and support that was shown to us during this time.  It was overwhelming.  It began immediately following the collision.  Passersby came to our aid right away.  They called 911.  They put blankets on us.  Sat with us.  Comforted us.  Told us we were going to be okay.  One guy who was on scene even contacted us weeks later to see how we were doing.

We had just moved to a new state only six months prior....so...we didn't know very many people from our new town...but we never once felt alone.  So many people reached out.  People from our community who we hardly knew called us at the hospital to check in on us and to let us know they were praying for us.  People came to visit us (even though the hospital was an hour and a half from town).  People sent emails daily.  Our friends from Utah called and sent messages of love and support.

When we got home, the love and support didn't stop.  People brought us food.  People came and sat by my bedside and cared for me while Curtis was at school.  People sent us money to help with the bills.  My boss donated her own 2 weeks worth of paid vacation time to me.  People sent letters, people prayed for us, our families braved the Wyoming cold weather to come and care for us.

I will never ever forget the kindness people showed to us.  It changed my life.

I think about our car accident a lot.

I have my daily reminders with my constant back pain, my two bulging ribs and my bouts of anxiety when driving.  But, I also have a greater appreciation for life and what is really important.

Today I am thankful to be alive.  I am thankful my sweetie pie is alive with me.  I am thankful for the wonderful people who continue to touch my life everyday with their kindness.

This world is full of really good people...and for that, I am grateful.

Big Lebowski Bowl-Off

It's the battle of the clinics as the DV Dominators take on the LS Suckers.

Curtis works at the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic here in town. His clinic took on the Legal Services Clinic in a Big Lebowski Bowl-Off.

I present to you....

The Dude, himself.

Look at that form.

Walter.

Maude.

Karl Hungus.

And the trophy goes to....

The DV Clinic!!

Don't they look happy?

I was even lucky enough to get my picture taken with The Dude.

This post is probably more appreciated by those who have seen the Big Lebowski. It's one of my favorite movies. For those of you who have never seen it, here is just a glimpse.

>>LAWLAPALOOZA!

Last week I went to a bar for my very first time...that's right folks! Not just any bar either...The COWBOY bar! I'm sure I stuck out like a sore thumb, but I had fun nonetheless.

The law school was putting on a fund-raising party (Lawlapalooza) trying to raise money for graduation and Curtis played in the house-band with some of his friends. They were awesome!! It was fun to see Curtis up on stage playing his bass and looking oh so sexy! There's just something about a hottie up on stage playing songs like Foxy Lady, Johnny Be Good and I Would Walk 500 Miles. He makes my heart melt. (Sigh)

Perhaps the most memorable part of the night was when Curtis gave a drunk guy a ride home. I wasn't there, but this is the story:

It was 1:00 in the morning and Curtis had just loaded his truck up with all of the band's equipment and was getting ready to leave, when he noticed a guy stumbling across the parking lot. The guy then spotted Curtis and stumbled to his truck waving his hands in the air. The conversation then went something like this....

Drunk Guy: "Hey you guys going to 12th and Lewis?"
Curtis: "uhhhhhhh, I guess so." (He was going nowhere near that address, but knew this guys was in no condition to be driving anywhere)
Drunk Guy: Attempts to climb over Curtis on the driver's side of the truck.
Curtis: "Uh, you need to walk around to the other side to get in."
Drunk Guy: "Oh yeah." -stumbles around and gets in truck.
Curtis then starts driving away.
Drunk Guy: "So, you hungry?" (presumably in an attempt to make a "run to the border" to Taco Bell)
Curtis: "Nope, sorry."
Drunk Guy: *waits a few seconds* "Oh, ok, well then do you smoke pot?"
Curtis: "Nope, sorry."
Drunk Guy: "Oh, ok."

On the drive to the guy's house, he gave Curtis 3 different addresses to be dropped off at, but he finally settled on one address where Curtis dropped him off, hopefully at home, although there is no way to tell. What a story, eh?

Anyway, it was a fun night and they raised some money for graduation...so it was a success!! Here are pictures for your enjoyment.

The band.

The guy at the mic is Supreme Court Justice Hill.

Glen rockin' the harmonica.

Curtis' professor gettin' funky on the dance floor.

Me and Sarah. She was nice enough to come keep me company.

Curtis wanted me to straddle the saddle stools, but I was too embarrassed.

More dancing.

>>FUNNY FART STORY

{Warning: May not be suitable for mature individuals}

The fact is, guys fart ALL. THE. TIME. I've come to realize that there is just nothing I, nor anyone else, can do about it. I usually try not to laugh about it because this only encourages my hubby. It is sort of like what Homer Simpson said, "You laughed...I'm off the hook." (Thanks Nate for posting that in my comments. Now that is all I hear) Anyway, there are times when Curtis cuts one and I can't help but burst out laughing.

So...the other day Curtis and his law school buddies were sharing their fart stories with each other. It's not enough that guys fart all the time, but they have to talk about farting too.

Anyway, so here is a hilarious fart story shared by one of our good friends...

Our friend, we'll call him Dan, was at Safeway (a grocery store in Laramie). He was looking at olives and suddenly felt the need to relieve himself. He looked to the left, then to the right. No one. So as he described it, he just "let her buck!" A second later Dan hears a female voice say, "Well I hope you feel better." Dan turns around to find a lady directly behind him. While he looked to the left and to the right, he failed to look behind him. Ha ha.

When Curtis told me this I was practically rolling on the floor laughing. Dan didn't know what to say, so he replied by saying something like this, "I'm sorry....I just don't even know what to say."

Anyway, sorry if you find this post totally crude, but I think it is so funny and I just wanted to share. Any of you have any funny fart stories?? he he :)

>>MY BFF'S

On Monday I had a meeting at Primary Children's Hospital that I had to go to for my work, so Curtis and I were lucky enough to spend the last 4 days down in Utah. It is always hard to juggle our time while we're down there. We always have so much to do and we are NEVER able to do it all. I was however, able to get together with some of my best friends that I haven't seen FOREVER!...like several years forever. So. Much. Fun!!

{Me, Neelam and Emily}
These girls are just plain awesome. I was SO happy that I was able to see them. It has been several years since I've seen them, and even more since we were all together. I have so many fun memories of them. We spent hours reminiscing about our high school days and just laughing and laughing about all the silly things we did. I'm so glad that I was able to share my high school experience with these girls and I'm definitely lucky to have them as my friends. Here are just a couple of funny memories I have with these girls.

Emily- One night Emily and I were just driving around trying to find something to do. We eventually ended up at Top Hat Video (a video rental store). While we were there, we saw someone that we DID NOT want to see us. We were trying to be sneaky and get out of the store without this person seeing us. I can't even remember who it was...or I would rather not say...just in case :-) Anyway, as we turned around the corner of an isle full of movies, we ran our fastest towards the door. But, to our surprise, the door was locked and we slammed right in to it and fell to the ground. Overcome with laughter and embarrassment, as everyone looked our way, we gathered ourselves together and ran out the other door. This story probably isn't as funny to anyone else as it was to us, but it is one of my funniest moments that happened with Emily. Oh, and just FYI, the person we were avoiding totally saw the whole thing.

Neelam- One night Neelam and I were just hanging out on my front porch. These 2 guys, who we both happened to have crushes on, stopped by. They came and talked with us for a bit on the porch and then they left. After they left, me and Neelam of course both sat and talked about them for quite awhile....how cute they were, how we both liked them...Neelam even talked about a dream that she had recently had about them. After awhile, they came back and hung out with us again. It wasn't until a few days later that I learned that when they came the first time, they put a tape recorder under the bench we were sitting on. Then, when they came back the second time, they were only coming back to pick up the tape recorder to see what we had been talking about. SO EMBARRASSING! At first I was totally embarrassed and worried about what I may have said. Then, I just couldn't believe that they were able to trick us like that. So, what did we do??...we got them back. We gathered up some dog poop and put it in a paper bag, then we put the bag under one of their seats in their car. We thought it was this great idea, but they never even found out about it. Our friend's car was already SO dirty and disgusting that the dog poop didn't make any difference.

You 2 girls are the best. Thanks for being such good friends to me!!

{Me and my other friend Emily}
I was also able to get together with my good friend Emily (a different Emily). She went to a different high school than I, but we worked together and became best friends. This girl is totally rad. That is the word I think of when I think about Emily...RAD!! I love her!! She is pregnant with a baby girl and is due next month. I am SO excited for her!!! She is going to be the best mom!

Here is a fun memory I have about Emily... She likes the same kind of music that Curtis likes, so once I started dating Curtis, I quickly turned to Emily and told her that she needed to help me with my music collection. I knew Curtis wasn't into country music, or Jewel, or Bryan Adams, or well, pretty much everything I listened to. Emily burned me several of her CDs, including The Clash, Bam Bam Bigelow (a comp CD with all the good stuff), the "C" Mix (which was secretly named for Curtis...also a great comp CD), Elliot Smith, and a bunch of others that I can't think of. Anyway, I put all of these CDs in my car and was sure to have one of them in the CD player when I would be with Curtis. He totally thought I was much cooler than I really was. Thanks Emily!!!

Another memory I have was when Emily and I decided to go get our hair died at the beauty school...because it was way cheaper than a regular salon. At the time, we were making about 5 or 6 bucks an hour at a very part time job. Emily wanted her hair to have blond and brown highlight/lowlights and I wanted my hair to have blond highlights, but not too blond, just a soft blond. Emily's hair ended up being this crazy silver color and mine ended up being bleached blond. We were both too shy to say anything and we left trying our hardest to hold in our laughs. I think Emily eventually ended up cutting her hair and I had one of my friends put in light brown lowlights in mine to settle the color down.

I love these girls SO MUCH!! Thanks for hanging out with me these past couple of days and for being the best friends ever!!!

>>I'M GETTING SENSITIVE IN MY OLD AGE

As I've gotten older, I have become much more sensitive. I have more love in my heart for others, I feel more empathy for others than I ever have before, and I have come to really understand how important and valuable friendship and love are. I guess this is just a part of "growing up."

Through my teenage years, I wasn't always the nicest person. I didn't understand or stop to think how my actions may hurt others. Lately I have been able to get in touch with a lot of friends that I haven't seen or talked to for a long, long time. I am embarrassed to think of how they may remember me. I think when I was younger I would shut people out of my life because I didn't want them to really know who I was...probably because I myself didn't really know. I never wanted any of my friends coming over to my house because it always smelled like smoke, we had 2 huge dogs that were always in the house (Pit-bull and Rottweiler), and there were beer cans all over the house along with some loser of a guy that was my mom's boyfriend at the time. So, I guess for me it was sometimes easier to keep up a guard and not get too close to others.

By doing this, I realize I never got too involved in the lives of others. I didn't let others' experiences...good or bad, effect me in any way. Therefore, I didn't get too upset if something wasn't going right for a good friend, and I didn't get too excited when something good happened to them. Sad, I know.

I think that being married to such a great guy and learning to love someone more than I ever thought possible has helped to open my heart to many other things. These days I really cherish the friendships I have. I have so much more empathy in my heart for those around me and truly care about them, their feelings, their life, etc. So...a big thank you to those friends who stayed with me even when I was such a brat, acted selfishly, and was insensitive to your feelings.

I've come to realize that I am effected by those around me. I get overwhelmed with joy when good things happen to others. And I feel great sadness for others when they are hurting and things aren't going their way. I've realized that life is better when you share it with others...the good and the bad times.

So, getting older and being more sensitive and sappy isn't all that bad:) For me, it is a good thing....even if I do cry during movies (and shows) that I would have never cried about before, and even though I get emotional about funny things sometimes, even some of your sweet comments on the good ol' blog...it's all good:)

>>THANKFUL FOR GOOD FRIENDS

A few nights ago Curtis and I went to our friend's graduation party. Our friends Steve and Jason are both graduating from law school. It was fun getting together with the friends we have made in Laramie. It's hard being so far away from our families, but having good friends close by makes it a lot easier.

Here are a few pics from the party...

(above) Me and Tempe.....Erin and kids

(above) Jason, Curtis and kids....I'm sad I didn't get all of Jason in this picture. I LOVE this picture because I think it is soooo cute with the two guys holding the sweet kiddos. Tempe is on Curtis' lap. She is Jason and Kate's daughter and she is the sweetest little girl!

Congratulations Steve and Jason!!!

Good luck with the bar :)

>>CUTE CAMILLE

This girl is pretty much the cutest girl I've ever seen. I just love her! Her name is Camille and she lives up the street from us. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to be the one her mom calls when she's looking for a babysitter. In these pictures, she is getting her face painted at the circus. Don't you just want to pinch those cheeks?....oh, she is just so cute!!

>>I LOVE TEMPE

Last night Curtis and I had the privilege of babysitting our friend's daughter Tempe. She is 18 months old and is the C-U-T-E-S-T little girl!! It really is a privilege to watch her. Since Curtis and I don't have kids of our own, it is a lot of fun for us to watch all of our friend's kids. Watching Tempe last night was so much fun. She is so mellow-tempered, she has the cutest personality, she's sociable, and just a pleasure to be around. When she was ready for bed, she walked up to me and said "up" and pointed up the stairs. I asked her if she wanted to go upstairs to bed and she nodded her head and said yes. I carried her up the stairs, laid her in her crib and said goodnight. She went right to sleep without any fuss at all. I haven't been able to stop talking about how cute she is ever since last night. Now I am more baby hungry than ever!

A big thanks to Jason and Kate for letting us play with Tempe last night!! We are sure going to miss you guys!!

PS: I don't want to leave out Camille. She is another favorite of mine:) She is the same age as Tempe and is also soooooo CUTE!! Curtis and I love to babysit her too. Kristi and Clay...please call us anytime you need a sitter. We love to play with sweet, little Camille!
