You bet I saw The Hunger Games! Of course it wasn't playing at the good ol' Ritz (our local theater), so the gals and I packed up and drove to the next town over.
I totally loved it! I kinda want to see it again.
I think they did a fabulous job with the movie. I loved Effie, I loved seeing Stanley Tucci as Caesar (the master of ceremonies), I loved Cinna and Jennifer Lawrence was just what I was hoping for as Katniss Everdeen. And Rue....oh my goodness...bless her heart.
What are your thoughts? Did you love it? Hate it? Refuse to read or see it?

>>JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK
and absolutely LOVED it!!
Now I can't wait to see the movie!! Hopefully it makes its way to Thermopolis soon...otherwise a road trip is in order.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the book...
"I always thought insanity would be a dark, bitter feeling, but it is drenching and delicious if you really roll around in it." -Skeeter
"All I'm saying is, kindness don't have no boundaries." -Aibileen
"I always order the banned books from a black market dealer in California, figuring if the State of Mississippi banned them, they must be good." -Skeeter
"No one tells us, girls who don't go on dates, that remembering can be almost as good as what actually happens." -Skeeter
"The first time I was ever called ugly, I was thirteen. It was a rich friend of my brother Carlton's over to shoot guns in the field.
'Why you crying, girl?' Constantine asked me in the kitchen.
I told her what the boy had called me, tears streaming down my face.
'Well? Is you?'
I blinked, paused my crying. 'Is I what?'
'Now you look a here, Egenia'-because Constantine was the only one who'd occasionally follow Mama's rule. 'Ugly live up on the inside. Ugly be a hurtful, mean person. Is you one a them peoples?'
'I don't know. I don't think so,' I sobbed.
Constantine sat down next to me, at the kitchen table. I heard the cracking of her swollen joints. She pressed her thumb hard in the palm of my hand, something we both knew meant Listen. Listen to me.
'Ever morning, until you dead in the ground, you gone have to make this decision.' Constantine was so close, I could see the blackness of her gums. 'You gone have to ask yourself, Am I gone believe what them fools say about me today?'
She kept her thumb pressed hard in my hand. I nodded that I understood. I was just smart enough to realize she meant white people. And even though I still felt miserable, and knew that I was, most likely, ugly, it was the first time she ever talked to me like I was something besides my mother's white child. All my life I'd been told what to believe about politics, coloreds, being a girl. But with Constantine's thumb pressed in my hand, I realized I actually had a choice in what I could believe." -Skeeter
"I'm sorry, but were you dropped on your head as an infant?" -Skeeter
"I give in and light another cigarette even though last night the surgeon general came on the television set and shook his finger at everybody, trying to convince us that smoking will kill us. But Mother once told me tongue kissing would turn me blind and I'm starting to think it's all just a big plot between the surgeon general and Mother to make sure no one ever has any fun." -Skeeter
"...My sister Doreena who never lifted a royal finger growing up because she had the heart defect that we later found out was a fly on the X-ray machine. " -Minnie
"Mother calls up the stairs to ask what in the world I'm typing up there all day and I holler down, 'Just typing up some notes from the Bible study. Just writing down all the things I love about Jesus." -Skeeter
"Bosoms are for bedrooms and breastfeeding. Not for occasions with dignity." -Eleanor Causwell talking about Miss Celia.

>>OLDIES BUT GOODIES
The past few weeks we have been catching up on some of the movies from our past. It's been a lot of fun. You should give it a try sometime.
Here is what we have watched if you need some ideas of where to start.....
The 80s and early 90s were a great time for movies, wouldn't you say? We frequently watch the classics such as Top Gun, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, Back to the Future, etc., but I still have a few childhood favorites that I want to revisit...hits such as...
Harry and the Hendersons ('87)
E.T. ('82)
Teen Witch ('89)
Three Men and a Baby ('87)
Willow ('88)
What about you? What were your favorite childhood movies? Any I must revisit?
Here is what we have watched if you need some ideas of where to start.....
The Fugitive ('93)
Awesome movie. Action packed, lots of turns and twists, and stars Harrison Ford to boot.
Thelma and Louise ('91)
Loved this movie! We actually hadn't ever seen it before, but it was talked about last week on NPR, so we decided to add it to our Nexflix queue and I'm glad we did. Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are awesome! Great movie...I would totally watch it again.
Waiting for Guffman ('96)
This is another movie I hadn't ever seen until now. Funny, funny, funny. Loved this movie. This movie has totally inspired me to start up a community theater in Thermopolis. I'm not ambitious enough to do so, but boy would it be fun. Loved the characters. Loved this movie.
Footloose ('84)
Good movie...good dancing...classic 80s style. Anyone up for getting together to learn the dance from this movie? I'm serious! Let me know.
Beetlejuice ('88)
Wow, this was sure a blast from the past. Beetlejuice was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Michael Keaton does a great job as Beeltejuice...totally crude, disgusting and even manages to drop the F-bomb in this PG movie. Total Tim Burton movie.
Little Shop of Horrors ('86)
This was another favorite of mine growing up. I can't decide if it was a good thing or not to watch this movie as an adult. It is weird...crazy...violent...even a little disturbing. I think it would be better had I not watched it again and just had the memories of it being the best movie ever. However, I will always love Audrey and wish I looked and sounded like her, just as I did when I was 6.

>>EVERYBODY CUT, EVERYBODY CUT...
everybody cut f-o-o-t-l-o-o-s-e!
Please tell me you have seen the movie Footloose.
You know, the movie where Kevin Bacon moves to
a small town only to discover that dancing is illegal.
If you have seen this gem of a movie, I high-five you
and recommend that you watch it again for good measure.
If you haven't, do yourself a favor and watch it.
I hear they are coming out with a remake of the movie...
so really, you should see the original first, dontcha think?
It's Kevin Bacon at his finest!
Speaking of Kevin Bacon, he is actually
a pretty funny guy...

>>MOVIE REVIEW: IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY
I loved this movie. Absolutely loved it! It's definitely one of my new favorites. Probably the best movie I have seen this year.
I love Zach Galifianakis. He is great in this movie. This is a more serious role for him, but he still manages to be funny, charming and lovable.
Two big thumbs up from me!
Rent it today and let me know what you think.

love actually
I finally saw the movie Love Actually. How this movie existed without me knowing is beyond me. It contained everything I enjoy in a movie: great actors, great music, accents, love, some cheese, some humor, conflict, resolution and meaning.
Being in love is the greatest thing on earth. Nothing else can compare.
One of my favorite parts of the movie was the very beginning when David (Hugh Grant) made this statement:
Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaking suspicion... love actually is all around.
Sigh.
And this song had me giggling throughout the movie:
I loved this movie. Thank you friends for recommending it to me. As I am one who can watch the same movie over and over again, this one is sure to be a regular.
