2010 says goodbye to procrastination
I am a huge procrastinator....and I'm sick of it. I have also become quite disorganized. I don't know what has gotten into me.
I procrastinated big time this year for Christmas. I ordered gifts online (due to the lack of shopping in Thermop), and lo and behold, they didn't make it by Christmas. So, we headed to Utah without gifts to give. When we returned back to Thermop, there the gifts were sitting by our front door....and here they are, still in Thermop, sitting on the living room floor. I have yet to mail them out.
Tomorrow is my grandma's birthday...another late b-day card from me...to go with her late Christmas present. Awesome.
Sorry grandma.
I don't think I use to be this way...I'm not sure though. I can't remember.
My goal for 2010 (minus the first week), is to be more organized and to quit procrastinating. My hope is to not be late for another birthday.
For starters, a calendar would probably be good....one I will actually use...and look at every once in a while. I'll work on that...but probably not today.

>>TWO THOUSAND TEN
A new year is here. Pretty crazy. 2010 just seems so futuristic . . . sort of Jetsons-ish.
With the new year comes new resolutions. This year's goal:
Get pregnant.
This is the year . . . its just got to be.
And of course, my usual goals . . . be a better person, be a better wife, be more outgoing, eat better, exercise more, keep the house clean, read more, learn more, love more.
Lets all toast to a fun, happy and healthy new year!
*clink*
Wishing you all the best in 2010!

>>THE SWEARING IN AND WHAT IT MEANS TO ME
Curtis was sworn in this week and is on his way to becoming a real attorney (as soon as all official paperwork is processed).
See for yourself. Here he is getting sworn in.

And here's the celebratory cake we ate at his office after the swearing in.

He was even in the local paper with a headline that read: NEW LAWYER JOINING FIRM. Even I was lucky enough to be mentioned in the news article as being the wife of the new hot lawyer in town. It really said that too.
It is such a good feeling knowing that Curtis is done and that he never has to study for that darn bar exam again (unless of course he decides to get licensed in another state).
For me, it means we can finally settle down.
When we moved from our first home in Kaysville to Wyoming, I knew our stay there was only temporary. I knew it would take Curtis 3 years in law school, and after that, we would most likely move. So, our lives there felt temporary (at least for me). Plus we were back to renting again, which was a bit of an adjustment from owning our own home. We weren't the boss of our home anymore. So, just the fact that we were back to renting made things feel a bit temporary. I always knew in the back of my mind that the day would come when Curtis would graduate and we would move on.
Then, that day did come, and we did move on. We moved to Thermopolis...to a tiny one bedroom apartment...that we rent...again. Our stay here in this new town was sort of contingent upon Curtis passing the bar. Heaven for bid we get too settled here only to have Curtis lose his job due to him failing the bar. So, to say the least, we haven't really had a chance to settle in here yet. We haven't even finished unpacking all of our belongings.
But now, things are changing. Curtis passed the bar, his job is stable (and he loves his job which makes things even better) and we have grown to like this little town of ours. So, in an attempt to have our lives feel less temporary and more secure here, I think it's time to move on and quit this renting nonsense.
I am looking forward to house shopping and eventually, loving the place I live. No more boring white, bare walls. No more not having a kitchen table because our apartment is too small. And no more living out of boxes and rubbermaid bins.
And for Pete's sake, it's time to finally move our piano here from Utah.
It's time to hunker down and settle in.

Welcome home Cheney family. Take off your boots and stay awhile!

changes:
Changes are in the making. Our house is full of boxes and we're busy making piles, lots of piles ... piles of:
things to pack
things to give away
not sure what to do with
Curtis stuff
Jen stuff
junk
etc
Yep, we're preparing to move.
Move where, you ask?
T H E R M O P O L I S, W Y O M I N G
Just the name of the town is fun. Ther-mop-o-lis. Curtis was fortunate enough to receive a great job offer with a firm there. We are excited and are looking forward to this new adventure.
Here are a few facts about the place we will soon call home:
It's home to the world's largest mineral hot spring
Has a population of about 3200
It's home to the Wyoming Dinosaur Center featuring a life-sized T-Rex skeleton
The Big Horn River flows right through town
It's home to the Old West Wax Museum
And my personal favorite, taken directly from the Town of Thermopolis website, "Thermopolis offers the romance, charm and ambiance of the old west." Any town that is described as being romantic and/or charming is the perfect town for me.
It's a beautiful town and we are excited to make it our new home!

We still have a couple of months before the big move, but we have a lot to get done and I know the time will go by fast. We will do our best to enjoy Laramie to the fullest before we have to say goodbye.
