a deer situation

seeing this out my front window . . . awesome

seeing this in my front yard . . . NOT awesome

Thermopolis is full of deer. They are everywhere. Even though I see a deer (usually several) pretty much daily, I still get excited every time. They are beautiful creatures. I especially love all the baby deer...so cute and bambi-ish.

There are times however, when I think to myself, "ok, enough is enough."

Like the time when I was walking home from the store and was startled by a ginormous deer with a head full of antlers. I had to hide behind a house while I waited for him to pass. He had a baby deer with him, so I was worried he might come after me to protect the baby.

Or the times when they leap right out in front of our car as we drive by.

Or when they do their business in our front yard.

Other than these times, the deer are my friends. I enjoy them.

Lets hope we stay friends during gardening season. As long as they don't figure out how to get in our backyard and eat all of our tomatoes, I think we'll get a long just fine. Otherwise, there could be trouble.

  1. i've heard that if you get hair clippings (like after you cut your husband's hair or something) and sprinkle them around the perimeter of your yard they won't come by there because they think there is a dead animal near by, meaning possibly a predator. anyway, don't know if it's true, but it beats chemicals and stuff. or there is always netting. good luck!

  2. I could pretty much bet they will be in your garden if you don't take a preventative measure. Yikes, I hate deer! (but then I cry when they're hit on the interstate, lol)

  5. My brother has the same problem living in Bountiful. He said they sent a letter with his bill last month---all the people complanining about the deer. THey wanted some solutions, like a sniper or a bow hunt--really people is that safe? I guess you just have to learn to live with them when you move into there territory. I hope they don't eat your veggies either!

  6. Heehee! I love deer. But they always eat my in-laws' flowers AND a deer once hit my husband's car. For real. There's still a huge dent in the front. It's a good story.

  7. They are so cute and even their poop is better looking(and smelling) than dog poop or cow poop or bear poop. BUT if they start eating your garden---it's time to invest in a pellet gun :)
