scary, creepy, crawly things that make you go "eeek!"

This weekend Curtis and I worked in our jungle of a backyard.  I don't know how it happened, but our backyard literally turned into a jungle this summer.  I closed my eyes for one second and a million weeds took over the garden....however, it may be possible that I never even stepped foot in the garden the entire summer.  Anyway, our garden was consumed with weeds and became the perfect breeding ground for the millions of grasshoppers that have taken shelter there.

Unfortunately, grasshoppers weren't the only creepy things to invade our property.

we also found the world's largest spider...in our own backyard jungle.

It was disgusting.

It was eating a ginormous grasshopper.

It was awful.

And gross.

And I hated so much that is was in my yard.

As the spider started moving and chomping on it's dinner, Curtis told me to film it.

Me, being the nice sweet wife that I am, took out the camera and bravely stepped close to the spider to begin filming.

Not one second later, Curtis ran his fingers up my back scaring the living daylights out of me.

After freaking out and dropping the camera, I regained my composure to continue filming.  Just then, a giant grasshopper sprang past me, again, scaring the crap out of me.

Lucky for you, it's all on film.

Enjoy.

I begged Curtis to kill the spider.

He wouldn't do it.

I didn't dare.

So...it's still taking up residency in the backyard.

It's disturbing, really.

  2. Okay I am freaked out officially by the title of this post, this post in general, the photo, AND the video.

    FREAKY!

But, isn't that a writing spider? At least that's what we call 'em here. They're huge but they don't do anything. Except eat gigantic insects. I wouldn't kill him either.

  3. BIG Spiders are the worst!! Right after we moved into our house in K-town we had a LOT of spiders living with us. One night I turned on the bedlamp soon after lying down and found a big spider right next to Marcus's head on the pillow. Now, I always check under the covers and pillows. Sweet dreams :) And what is with Curtis...is he a spider humanitarian or a scaredy-cat?

Mrs. D - i think you are right...he just sits on his web and eats grasshoppers all day. i just decided to name him Murphy.

  7. That's HILARIOUS, I loved it!!! I can't believe neither of you killed the spider. Now it'll lay a million eggs everywhere and you'll experience the real-life version of arachnaphobia!

  9. Siiiiick. That's almost as bad as the snake in my yard. Bluggghhh. I HATE spiders, and there is one that has taken up residence in the corner of our house, outside by the garbage cans. He spins a nice web, I knock it down, he spins a new one, I knock it down. He jumps every time I close the garbage can lid. I haven't named him yet. He's ok as long as he stays there. I always make Jake kill spiders in the house. Have fun with Murphy! :)
