I've had a couple of good friends get married recently. How exciting! I wasn't able to go to either of their wedding ceremonies or receptions, which was a major bummer, but nonetheless, I am so excited for them to begin this new journey in their lives.
I love being married. I got married young. I remember once my boss asked me how old I was when I got married. When I said 19, she choked on her water. "NINETEEN, are you serious?" I think it's hard for some to understand why (I'm totally going to say it), us mormons, get married so darn young. Seriously though, how are we expected to date a ridiculously good-looking guy, see him night after night after night, fall in love, not move in together, and not, um, you know.... I'm getting off topic here, but you get the idea.
Anyway, so I married young. I wasn't surprised to fall in love and marry so young. It's what I kind of always envisioned happening.
Sometime during my first year of college, an old flame appeared. It was the boy with the overgrown bull cut who I would get all giddy around as I watched him skateboard with his friends. (Isn't love at 13 fun?) By now, we are both a lot older...and his bull cut is gone (however, it wouldn't have mattered if it wasn't. Bull cuts should make a come-back). We talk, catch up a bit, spend some time together, and I'm quickly reminded why I had a crush on this guy in the first place.
Curtis came into my life at a time when I needed someone the most. I know, it sounds so cliche, but it's true. My home-front was rocky (boulders everywhere) and I needed someone to help me over the hurdles. He did just that.
I needed Curtis. He needed me too. Who else was going to help him pass Math 1050? Oh, those were good times...
sitting in my grandma's basement
eating Red Barron pizza
drinking ice cold cokes
teaching algebra to a hottie sitting next to me
trying not to get distracted
"ok, so if x plus 6 equals 10, then x equals?"
"four"
Then we kiss... cuz he got it right. :-)
We were married soon after and my life has never been better.
Anyway, my point of this post was to congratulate my friends who just got married, so, congratulations dear friends. I always get excited about friends getting married because I know what a blessing (and life changing experience) it can be.
So in closing...
"tru wuv, will fowow you foweva...
So tweasure your wuv."
[If you have never seen The Princess Bride, how dare you? Go rent it now! In fact, it was Curtis who introduced me to this movie. No wonder we fell in love.]
marriage is amazing. that is the one decision in my life that i can never doubt that i made the right choice. and i'm so thankful for that. seeing friends who have already gotten divorced, makes you realize just how significant and life changing marriage is. and it would be pure hell to be married to the wrong person. but if is the right person it is simply amazing. difficult at times yes, but you have each other to go through life with. it doesn't get better than that.
