>>GRANDPA JOE

The other morning Curtis, his brother Clark (who is visiting us from Washington DC), and I had pancakes for breakfast. Whenever I have pancakes, I always think about my grandpa. For those of you who don’t know, I lived with my grandparents until I was 12. When I was young, he would make me pancakes for breakfast and he would spell out my name with the batter. My pancakes would be in the shapes of letters…J E N N Y. It always made me smile to see my name spelled out in pancakes. My grandpa always did a lot of funny things.

Here are just a few of the things he would do that always made me laugh…

During breakfast or dinner, he would take my drink (when I wasn’t looking) and put it behind something on the table, so when I went to take a drink, my cup was gone.

He would put orange peels in my shoes if I would leave them lying around the house. One time he put orange peels in a pair of shoes I didn’t wear too often. They were put back in my closet and it was a long time before I pulled them out again. When I did, they were full of rotten orange peels.

One time he stapled the sleeves of my shirt together. I had my clothes lying out on my bed that I was going to wear one day…when I went to put them on, the sleeves were stapled shut. I yelled for my grandma to come in and see what grandpa had done. She was so mad at him because it put little, tiny holes in my sleeves:)

Every morning he would wake me up by turning on my bedroom light and singing…”It’s time to get up…It’s time to get up…It’s time to get up in the morning.” I’m sure you all know how the rest of the song goes.

Also, whenever I would walk into the same room as him, he would sing, “There she is….Miss America.”

He would often times put rubber bands on the kitchen sink sprayer. It was usually my grandma who got tricked on that one:)

It is fun to think about all the funny things my grandpa would do….and still does. Even though at times I would get really embarrassed when he would sing in front of my friends, he always made me laugh. I’m lucky to have such a wonderful grandpa!!

  2. That sure was a cute tribute to your grandpa!! He sounds like a really fun guy!! I will have to remember the pancake idea:) We didn't make it to Laramie becasue the interstate was closed all day, but we will have to visit another time! It is too bad becasue we didn't make it to the job fair. We were realy counting on that helping us know what to do with our lives, but oh well. We will find a job somewhere, rght?
